The Best Of" which includes 14 of his comedy classics plus his theme song, Yakity Sax. Benny sang this song in a voice slightly like Bob Dylan's. The [C]couple looked down at their newborn child in their shack that was falling to [G7]bits, The mother said, "Let's call it Johnny," the father said, "Let's call it [C]quits." And when Johnny was four, his pa was too poor to buy toys from the [C7]Christmas shop [F]shelves, So he just fired his gun and he [C]told his young son Father [G7]Christmas had shot him[C]self. Now [C]one day his ma took him to a fair and he went on a round-a[G7]bout, He giggled with glee, "I wanna go wee!" Everyone heard the boy [C]shout. She took him by the hand, from the fairground they ran, she took him be- [C7]hind A big [F]tree, She said, "There, shut your row, you can [C]go wee now," he took a [G7]deep breath and went, "[C]Wheeee!" Then he said, "[C]Please can I go 'round again, ma? Please can I go 'round A[G7]gain? Oh, I love the sound of the merry-go-round, please let me go 'round A[C]gain? I'll do all of my homework, I'll even kiss [C7]old Auntie [F]Gwen, And I won't shout out loud, ma, [C]I'll make you proud, [G7]please let me go 'round a[C]gain." At [C]twelve he danced with his gym mistress, she said, "Johnny, you're wicked and you're [G7]bad, I wish I was your ma for just half an hour," John said, "I'll have a word with my [C]dad." Then someone dropped a lit cigarette down the back of her dress but [C7]she didn't [F]shout, She just walked off the floor and she [C]said, "What a bore, I shall [G7]just have to sit this one [C]out." And Johnny said, "[C]Please can we go 'round again, Miss Rhodes, please can we go 'round a[G7]gain? I've not been this close to a woman before and heck knows when I will A[C]gain. Oh, I tell you true, I could dance with you 'til the cows come [C7]home and [F]then, I could dance with the cows, so [C]please, Miss Rhodes, [G7]please let me go 'round a[C]gain." At [C]18, Irene with the hourglass figure got him in a heck of a [G7]fix, Her pa came 'round and Johnny was found with his hands on a quarter to [C]six. They were married the next day in the church by the bay, 10 a.m., the [C7]15th of [F]June, She looked lovely in white as she said, "[C]Johnny, tonight " He said, "To [G7]heck with tonight, this after[C]noon!" "[C]Then can we go 'round again? In the meantime can we go 'round A[G7]gain? I tell ya I haven't felt like this since I can't remember [C]when. And seein' you lay there beside me, oh it damn near [C7]blows my [F]mind, Oh please can we go 'round a[C]gain and again, and then [G7]'round again one more [C]time?" Johnny's [C]mother-in-law came to live next door, she had a tongue that stung like a [G7]bee, She said, "I'll dance on your grave," Johnny said, "That's brave, 'cause I'm gonna be buried at [C]sea." At 50 he took to coming home late, he wasn't a [C7]creature of [F]habit. If he came home early his wife thought he was [C]up to something, if he came home [G7]late she thought that he'd [C]had it. He was [C]just 91 on the day he passed on, it was the way that he hoped it would [G7]be, He was shot by a beauty queen's husband in a fit of jealous[C]y. As he lay on the floor a priest was sent forward, and with his last breath [C7]Johnny con[F]fessed, "I spent all of my money on [C]woman and drink and like a [G7]fool I squandered the [C]rest." "[C]Lord, can I go 'round again? Please can I go 'round a[G7]gain? Oh, I can't believe that I'll never see your sky or your trees a[C]gain. Oh, the girls and the wine and the living were fine, I shouldn't com- [C7]plain but [F]then, You give damned short rides on this [C]fairground of yours, Lord, oh [G7]please let me go 'round a[C]gain." This is one in a series of Benny Hill songs I've learned by ear. Most of these songs have only three chords which makes it easy figure them out. I might have missed some chords or put the wrong ones down, but the basic structure is there at any rate. I welcome any comments, corrections or suggestions for improvement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Transcribed by Hoser "Great spirits have always encountered [email protected] violent opposition from mediocre minds." http://mars.ark.com/~deh -Albert Einstein ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
